Anthony Lakes

Eastern Oregon’s hidden gem with dry snow and great Cat skiing

Powder Skiing in Eastern Oregon

When most folks think about skiing in Oregon some of the first resorts that come to mind might be Mount Hood’s glacial Timberline Lodge, the heavily frequented Mt. Hood Meadows or the often sunny Mount Bachelor. Proximity to big cities and consistent snowfall earn these ski areas their due attention and high visitor numbers, but to the East, far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities lies a little known Oregon ski area with a lot to offer.

Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort is a year round recreation area 21 miles from the small town of North Powder, Oregon and 35 miles from Baker City.

Located in the Elkhorn Range of the Blue Mountains, Antony Lakes is one of only two ski areas in Eastern Oregon and serves as a powder mecca for many surrounding towns in the region. With offerings such as: downhill skiing and snowboarding, cat-skiing, nordic skiing, and snowshoeing. Although only have one chairlift, the downhill ski area has a wide variety of terrain for all skill levels including groomed trails, and great off-piste zones as well as a small terrain park.

Tickets are affordable here and the base lodge has full amenities.

Resort and cat skiing

Anthony Lakes is much more than just a one chair wonder. The resort offers slopeside overnight yurt rentals, backcountry cat skiing, maintained cross-country skiing trails, ski and snowboard lessons in the Winter and serves as a reprieve from the heat during Summer with activities such as camping, mountain biking and dining at the base area’s Starbottle Lodge.

Cat skiing is available during the resort’s normal days of operation which is Thursdays – Sundays and can be prebooked at a group rate through their website.

The ski area also allows overnight RV parking and has a one of kind former Guard Station available for overnight lodging rental next to the slopes.
