Mt. Baker

The snowiest ski area in the world

The World’s snowiest ski area

There is no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to powder hunting, but your best bet on the North American continent is none other than Northern Washington’s Mt. Baker. Baker gets at least 100″-200″ each month during the Winter, and the days with fresh snow outnumber the days without it.

Mount Baker is a medium sized ski area with 1,500 vertical feet of skiing on 1,000 acres with 8 chair lifts. Baker has varying terrain and is known for it’s off-piste steep powder runs.

About an hour and a half East of Bellingham Washington, nestled in the Northern Cascade Range near the Canadian border stands the 10,781 foot tall Mt. Baker. The 1998-99 season saw Mt. Baker set the World Record for most snowfall in one season with a whopping 1,140 inches between November and April, and the Mt. Baker Ski Area averages 659 inches annually on a 15 year average. During the 2016-17 ski season Mt. Baker Ski Area had a whopping 68 powder days (5″ plus).

Snowy Winter storms

When the storm door opens in Western Washington’s Cascade Range, it usually doesn’t close until the waning days of Spring. In the shadow of the mighty Mount Rainier, Mt. Baker Ski Area benefits from the most annual snowfall of any ski area in the entire world with an average of 659″ each season and an unrivaled world record for snowfall in a single season with 1,140″ back in the 1998-99 season.
